Dear students,
This year, I have the privilege of being either your Gifted Language Arts teacher, Writing teacher, Drama teacher, or all three! Unlike most educators, I NEVER wanted to be a teacher. I actually wanted to be a veterinarian until I volunteered at an animal hospital and fainted during my first major surgery. When I was eighteen, I moved six hours north of Miami to Gainesville where I studied at the University of Florida for five years. I earned a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in English Education. It wasn't until my last year of college that I volunteered at a high school and found out that i really enjoy helping your adults. It wasn’t until my last year of college that I volunteered at a high school and found out that I enjoyed helping young adults. (I don’t teach elementary because I don’t like little kids). Teaching Language Arts is my passion because it is a subject I excelled in when I was in school. I would NEVER teach math because I abhor it and I’m not great at it.
Furthermore, I love to laugh and spend time with my family and friends. My husband’s name is Humberto. We were married on June 30, 2012. We added on to our little family by rescuing our fur-baby, Annie. She is a Sheppard mix and the love of our lives! A few months ago we brought home another puppy named Bailey. She is a lab mix and very playful. As for my parents, they have been married over thirty years. I have two younger brothers, Eddie and Kevin. Eddie is an actor with The Second City in Chicago and Kevin is an assistant football coach at Westland Senior High. My brothers and I were all born and raised in Hialeah.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling. So far I have visited Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, most of the Caribbean, Panama, and about fourteen different states in the USA. Last summer I finally fulfilled my life-long dream. My husband and I spent three weeks in Europe traveling through Italy and Greece. I have never seen such beauty in all my life. I hope to return again in the future and just spend all my time in Greece. There was one dish I ate in Santorini overlooking the Aegean sea-- it was a simple Greek yogurt with a grape seed honey on top. It was thick and sweet and refreshing all at once. I have tried to recreate it at home but have failed miserably. I guess I have to go back to enjoy it again!
Now, the true purpose of this letter is to introduce myself. I think every teacher should let her students know right from the beginning what is expected of them so there are no surprises. I expect you to work hard and really try. I don’t like laziness AT ALL! I also expect you to turn in work. When student don’t turn in assignments, I give detentions. It’s not because I want to get you in trouble. I am strict because I consider myself to be an excellent teacher and if I don’t get tough with you, it means I don’t care. I have a pretty good sense of humor and I’m young, so I remember what it’s like to be your age.
I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you and I think we are going to have a great year together. Before you know it, it will be summertime again!
Sincerely,
Ms. Mujica
